03 Ceremony of gratitude.

Written version

This week you’ve (hopefully) been dreaming about and planning your ceremony of gratitude, and writing your letter of appreciation (if you haven’t, no worries, that’s what the catch-up time is for!)

If you haven’t and have been feeling resistance, now is the time to get curious about why; there’s an exercise in today’s workbook and a guided visualisation audio for that.

The most important thing for you to know today, even if you have trouble recognising it, is that you are one courageous, resilient human. Now is your time to ‘spend’ that energy on living life beyond just getting by and muddling through The Chronic Illness Struggle.

If there are people who need to know you’re taking this time for yourself - let’s say partners, kids, or people who are likely to want you during your ceremony of gratitude - now is a great time to establish a boundary!

You could say something like…

  • I won’t be available for the next hour, morning/afternoon, day.  If you need me, I’ll be with you at X.

  • I’m doing something for myself today, so I’ll be ‘offline’ for the next hour, morning/afternoon, day.

One final thing before I go… looking at your ceremony of gratitude, is there any room to amp up the level of audacity?!  If you think there might be, what would that look like?  It’s important that this feels really special.  It may be something as simple as adding a candle and your favourite music to your celebratory bath, but if you want to - and can - go bigger, go bigger!  There are no limits here!  In the words of Sasha @frankandfeel #BeMoreExtra - you are worthy of that.

Ceremony checklist

  • #BeMoreExtra

  • Plans made and details considered

  • Letter of appreciation ready to read

  • Time set aside and boundaries communicated

When you’re ready, settle in, read your letter back to yourself, allow those words to sink in to every fibre of your being and revel in this ceremony.
